Milk and Honey
Milk and Honey looks the part but my flat white is only OK - not much flavour, slight bitter aftertaste.
It’s always hard to think of a place to go on a monday night, Canberra is not known for late night trade even on a weekend and nothing springs to mind in terms of cafes with crazy good dessert. I decided after much debate witha friend to try milk and honey as i have heard good things in the past. We were greeted by a friendly waiter who arrived with water and menus. After a quick browse of the huge cake selection nothing had grabbed us so we asked the waiter for his opinion, he suggested the blackberry cheesecake and lemon tart which sounded good. I ordered an espresso and a flat white for coffees and they arrived shortly after. The crema on the espresso was fading fast and was not hot at all which seemed odd, there was clearly a problem with the extraction as there was very little flavour just warm bitter water. The milk was a good temperature which is usually a good sign however it could not hide the coffee and overall i was dissapointed. On the brightside the cakes were both really good and the waiter was friendly all night even when he was packing up around us, you don’t find that often!
My double macchiato was too milky but otherwise enjoyable.
If the coffee here isn’t quite the best in the Garema Place area, at least you can relish a certain rarified chic atmosphere without the snobbery of the sevice staff across the road at Cream.
One of the trendy options in the café-packed Garema Place, though it was full of mothers groups when I visited today so I think it may have lost that battle to Cream or Tongue and Groove.
The coffee is certainly drinkable. Not terrible, but that’s about all you can say about it.
