Kinfolk
Lovely space in an otherwise coffee-poor part of the Melbourne CBD. A short and varying breakfast menu with a few things you’ll not see elsewhere. The quinoa porridge was pretty tasty! Coffee was quite good, and made all the better by knowing that you’re supporting some worthy causes.
Kinfolk is a volunteer-staffed non profit initiative of YGAP (Y Generation Against Poverty), which supports a range of local and international causes and attempts to use ethical, sustainable supplies wherever possible.
On the ground floor of Donkey Wheel House (the old Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board building) down the quiet Spencer end of Bourke Street, it’s popular with local office types and patrons of the Hub Melbourne creative co-working space on level 3 of the same building.
Food offerings are ever-changing, with a deliberate focus on seasonal, local produce and the ethos of “conscious consumption.” Beans and other support are provided through a full sponsorship from Di Bella coffee. All the basics are done well - definitely worth a visit.
Look out for: at the register, customers are encouraged to place a coffee bean in one of several jars assigned to a cause, which determines the profit share each receives.
