Le Monde Café
A great place to sit and chill out with breakfast, and during the day you’ll often see people tucked in a corner with a laptop. Good food, good coffee.
I love Le Monde. The coffee is always fantastic, the service is fast and friendly and it’s perfect for a catchup, meeting or for some hacking. The food is consistently good too.
To be honest, I came here with high expectations, in 2009, I’d had about 3 quite nice coffees here in the space of about one week. However, this time round (~9/2/11), the coffees were less then grand.
I’d been talking with the guys at Single Origin (a few streets away), and they’d recommended Le Monde to me as they had a working clover drip. So, I ordered the clover drip, with what ever beans the barista thought best; considering I’d not had a clover drip coffee before. Well, the result was surprising, the pour time was about 45 seconds, it came out probably too quickly and too hot, after letting it cool for a few minutes, the flavours just weren’t there; The coffee was weak and had very little body to it (quite like the coffee you often get at conferences from places like Peats *shudder*).
Second up, I decided to try one of their espressos – with just what ever the house beans were – that is, after some water to have a clean palette before tasting a different coffee. Well, once again, the result was surprising, there was just no body to the coffee at all, and any body that was there was washed out by a rather sour-ish flavour in the coffee.
Great Coffee, Smooth service, nice seating arrangement (indoors and outdoors, indoors with lounges and tables, outdoors with just seats & tables). A neat assortment of coffee devices on the wall. Overall, I’d recommend this cafe to anyone looking for a decent coffee.

Max at Le Monde is a legend. A @dylanfm and I had the whole process of making a double ristretto explained to us. They know their shit and their coffee is phenomenal.
It seems you can do no wrong in Surry Hills. Another great macchiato, strong and with just a touch of milk.
