I’m sure I’ve had good coffee here before, but today’s effort was a little bit nasty. (Maybe they didn’t change the grounds after doing my husband’s - he says his was fine). The hot chocolate is lovely (lots of chocolate in hot milk) and meals range from standard cafe to a bit pretentious but nice.

I’m a regular at Cream, so my review is likely quite biased. Given how often I take up residence in this establishment I have inevitably made my way into the inner circle with the staff etc, and have colloquially become known as ‘the computer guy’.

However, this is about coffee, not about myself.

I have always loved Cream’s coffee, however at times I have heard otherwise from my friends. Most of the time their baristas are great, however some are probably not as much in love with coffee as others. Most often I will notice inconsistencies in the coffee when the younger baristas are working, but its usually quite acceptable - however, if you get a coffee you aren’t happy with you are well within your rights to ask for it to be remade - but perhaps tell them what you don’t like about it.

That being said though, I am always more then happy with what I receive, which is evident by the 5 or 6 cups I drink at times… yes, I do have a problem, no, I do not want to fix it :)

Max is right when he says that it feels that Cream is trying a little too hard to be cool. This seems to work for them - they attract a big, trendy-looking crowd - but a lot of the time this just manifests itself as snobby service.

That said, I’ve always had great coffees at Cream and their meals (mostly situated at the upper end of the typical café price range) are very nice. They also have a couple of nice bars to where you can sit, and they appear to be pretty tolerant of people working on laptops, which is a plus.

Produces the finest, sweetest, easiest drinking double shot in town.

Generally pretty consistent. Have always ordered a macchiato and have never been disapointed :)

Pretty decent with a nice bench to sit and people-watch. Feels as though they’re trying a little too hard to be cool.

Not the place to go when you’re in a hurry. The waiters get snarky when you want your coffee and toast within 20 minutes. Coffee was decent today, but varies depending on the barista.

One positive thing I would say about Cream is the selection of pastries on hand. Although not unique to them (I believe other cafes in the area use the same bakery supplier) they’re fairly awesome.

These guys make a great coffee and have awesome muffins. Their coffee machines look al retro but work a treat.

Cool space to hang out and work from too.

Apparently I ordered a hazelnut latte—sans hazelnut and sans coffee. If you like warm milk, Cream is the place to go. Deserves half a star really

I had a delicious piccolo latte here on the weekend (in a very clean glass).

They seem to have lifted their game in response to the mounting competition, however I can’t help but feel Canberra’s oldest cafe could do a lot more to keep up.

My flat white was fine, maybe a tad too foamy. This is a newish place that replaced My Cafe.

Not bad flat whites, though a bit too foamy and hot when I visited. Expensive, but their sizing is very, very large. The (very pricey) banana bread turned out to be more of a nut cake.

This was the worst cafe experience I have ever had. Period.
From being told that we would need to make a booking to use our Living Social coupon, as not to hurt their “core business”, to the unavailability of menu items the whole meal was horrible.

Milk and Honey looks the part but my flat white is only OK - not much flavour, slight bitter aftertaste.
