This was the worst cafe experience I have ever had. Period.
From being told that we would need to make a booking to use our Living Social coupon, as not to hurt their “core business”, to the unavailability of menu items the whole meal was horrible.
After 20 minutes we got two dishwater coffees, and after 50 minutes we got our order of Pancakes with Strawberries and Maple Syrup, and Pancakes with Gelato. Mum got two pancakes made with shaker mix, with one rotten strawberry and I got one pancake with one tablespoon of gelato (I could not be more serious about the quantities, I even took photos.
The reason the meals took so long to arrive is because there was one staff member cooking all meals on a hotplate behind the counter. There were only two other tables (of 5 people total) there during our booking, so I hate to think what it would be like if they were busy. This has to be some kind of health code violation. As does the other girl working back there with her long hair out.
Our deal also included a ‘sweet treat’ which was a choice of a 1cm square of brownie or cheesecake or a larger chocolate dessert to share. We chose the latter, which was old, dry and not very appealing.
As my Mum said, “the water was good”.

No way this cafe will last.

We waited over 40mins for our breakfast and when we asked if we could have our money back we were told it was ready and they were bringing it out straight away… they then gave it to someone else!! (it turns out it was really that persons order anyway as they had been waiting 50mins!!) We left with our money for breakfast charges only after watching two other parties also get their money back. Paid $6 for a milkshake which was actually only a glass of milk and vanilla syrup. Very disappointed and annoyed we wasted about 45mins of our day and still got no breakfast :(

This newcomer in Garema Place has less personality than its neighbours, but friendly staff and decent coffee (with a couple of different Australian-grown beans for you to choose from). The proprietor was thoughtful enough to ask how exactly I liked my double macchiato, kindly enabling me to avoid any over-milking. The $1 home made cookies were super tasty.

My flat white was fine, maybe a tad too foamy. This is a newish place that replaced My Cafe.

I had a delicious piccolo latte here on the weekend (in a very clean glass).

They seem to have lifted their game in response to the mounting competition, however I can’t help but feel Canberra’s oldest cafe could do a lot more to keep up.

Milk and Honey looks the part but my flat white is only OK - not much flavour, slight bitter aftertaste.

The Bakery Cafe has recently sprung up in the refurbished former location of Chinese dining institution, Sammy’s. While it is just around the corner from the glut of cafés in Garema Place, it lacks both the hipster charm and relatively high standard of …

I’m sure I’ve had good coffee here before, but today’s effort was a little bit nasty. (Maybe they didn’t change the grounds after doing my husband’s - he says his was fine). The hot chocolate is lovely (lots of chocolate in hot milk) and meals range fr…

“We love coffee too!” is the declaration that dominates the chalkboard menu at this small outdoor chinese café. I’m pleased to report that you can actually believe them. They serve remarkably decent espresso at low prices ($2.50) and with friendly service.
