Nothing to enthuse about, but nothing to complain about either - a decent flat white. There are other places in Kingston I’d rather go, but no need to fear for your tastebuds if there are no tables or too long a line for take-away elsewhere (which was the reason for today’s visit).

The most homely of all the cafés fronting Green Square, Caffé Lella served me a well-made macchiato, a tasty coconut slice, and a big serving of down to earth Italian kitchen ambience.

While the ever-popular Kingston Grind is just a few stores down, this place is still worth checking out.

One of several cafés looking out onto green square. Plenty of outdoor seating for enjoying a nice day. Decent enough coffee and a mean foccacia.

Nothing to write home about and a little on the cold side.

Don’t bother. Terrible service, cheerful enough staff but slow slow slow. We waited 25 minutes for our 2 coffees to arrive and 35 minutes for our food. I won’t be going back.

Pretty acceptable espresso, served in one of those wire-handled glass cups, although the wait was long and the coffee was losing its crema by the time it arrived. Perhaps a better choice when it’s not busy.

Always, and still, my benchmark for good cappuccino. And pain au chocolat! Not quite 10 though, because sometimes you inexplicably get a wooden paddle pop stick rather than a teaspoon…
