Cappuccino was good but not strong enough. For Coffee number 3 today, that isn’t such a bad thing…
It’s been better and probably needs a menu refresh with some really good thought about local, fresh ingredients.
And, as much as it pains me to say it, they need an obsessive barista to focus on producing the excellent coffee they are capable of.
If you’re a juice fan, their fresh juices are spectacular; my teen daughter loves them!
Not too bad previously when they sourced Sacred Ground beans (same as As Nature Intended at Belco Markets) but they’ve since switched to the weak, washed-out Ona, which continues to plague Canberra.
The food is too simple, bland and over-priced.
The only thing I think I like from there lately is their fresh juice… Which isn’t saying much, is it…
So disappointed. I ordered a flat white that was hot milk with a hint of coffee which I sent back. The replacement flat white was exactly the same! Awful.
They do try hard here, but cappuccino is regularly delivered too hot, eventually destroying the balance of what started out as a good coffee.
Disappointing. We had a booking but still had to wait for people to leave before we could get our table. Service was average - had to ask for water glasses 3 times, which wasn’t good since it was so hot and stuffy in there. Coffee was average, but my ricotta gnocchi was undercooked and still tasted floury and doughy, which was pretty disappointing for a $24.00 lunch. The atmosphere and decor is nice, but doesn’t make up for the bad food and service. Won’t be going back any time soon.
Coffee was good, although our lattes came out a bit hot for our liking they were fine once they cooled. Our breakfasts were good but not spectacular, mostly due to some dud notes detracting from otherwise good food (eg. the pancakes were great, but the rhubarb on them was a bit too tart).
The only thing that comes to mind is the unfortunate saying: “mutton dressed up as lamb”.
Looks like they spent a lot of money to make the cafe look good. But they also forgot that cafes are about good coffee and good food. The long black was very average, the waiter spilled it when he brought it over, and the food had definitely never been tested by a real person when they were preparing the menu.
The most amazing hot chocolate I have had in Canberra - pieces of Belgian chocolate (in a variety of options, including milk, dark and white) in the bottom of perfectly frothed milk, for you to mix yourself.
Sunday afternoon, new staff dropping things everywhere. Unsure of whether a “doppio” would be recognised, I asked for a double-shot espresso and was sufficiently happy with the results – warmed cup, good crema, nice level of bitterness – that I had another. This stylish partner to Cream and London Exchange offers a similar selection of irresistible, utterly unhealthy pastries as well as proper meals for those who wish to dine.
