Cafe Ish
The wattle maccacino is their signature coffee, smooth and slightly on the sweeter side. The cute little crunchy biscuit on the side is a nice touch. From their incredibly diverse menu, I tried the ‘croc in a roc’ - the sausages were beautifully herby and flavoursome, sitting in plenty of eggy goodness. They don’t skimp on portion sizes either - I’ve never seen such a large thick slice of multigrain toast. The atmosphere and decorations (lots of cushions, empty sake bottles, a windowsill overflowing with fresh bread) is unique, quirky and cozy.
An odd-but-good mix of Japanese and Western food, Café Ish is not a typical Sydney dining experience. The rice porridge with tuna and nori I ordered was delicious (and enormous), as was the lovely strong doppio that accompanied it.
Now this is something special! Cafe Ish offers an eclectic mix of hybrid Japanese-Australian dishes, breakfast through lunch. I had an unforgettably tasty soft shell crab & chilli omelette. Couple this with some well made coffee and friendly service that definitely draws from the Japanese tradition and you have a great café experience.
