I thought I’d get one last le petit dejuener on my last in day in Paris, and Lézard Café looked to be a nice shaded place slightly off Rue Montorgueil to relax before cramming myself and my suitcase onto the Metro. Alas, though all the tables were set with cutlery, no breakfast to be had here. They do make half-decent espresso though. Not awful, but not great either.

After a few less than stellar espresso experiences in Paris, and with Decaf Sucks reviews a little thin on the ground in this part of the world, I decided to try some alternative sources for a decent café recommendation. Through the coffeegeek.com forum…

One of the many cafés and restaurants that line Rue Montorgueil, as is the way in Paris, it’s a nice place to sit facing the street and watch a Paris Sunday go by. Their coffee is a served too hot, but flavourful enough and competently constructed.

You’re certainly spoiled for choice along Rue Montorgueil, there are probably 50 restaurants and cafés within a couple of hundred metres. Unfortunately none that I tried had great coffee and Little Italy is no exception. Their espresso is a bit on the b…

A lovely place for dinner, the owner sat down with us to talk through the menu and recommend some wine. Unfortunately a terrible place for espresso. No crema and not much flavour. Best described as meh.

This little restaurant/café on a quiet street just a couple of blocks from the Louvre is the perfect place to lunch on a summers day in Paris. Beautiful food served by a fantastically French waitress, and only the occasional large group of singing teena…
