Cafe d’lish
A casual little cafe with a very friendly atmosphere. My Flat white was pleasant, but nothing special - just a cut above the Canberran norm. As of my visit, they were using a Hansel and Gretel coffee, but I didn’t ask for more detail. I imagine they would be flat out at lunchtime, i hope it wouldn’t dent the standard of coffee.
A non-pretentious café at the Deakin shops, D’lish make lovely fresh looking sandwiches and take a decent stab at espresso as well. I ordered a wholly pretentious doppio and, once I’d confirmed I meant a double-shot short black, waited at the counter for the barista to serve it up. This threw him a little and he seemed flustered as he plated up my coffee.
The doppio was alright—a little bitter and a little thin—and on finishing it the barista presented me immediately with another! He’d decided that the first one wasn’t good enough, but as I’d been at the counter he hadn’t wanted to take it off me. This second coffee was indeed better, though nothing special. Extra points for effort.
Cafe d’lish makes the best coffee in Canberra as far as I’m concerned the little cafe also makes great sandwiches and the Swiss chef makes all pies, cakes, and other delicacies on the premises. Pop your head around the corner to the kitchen and say hi. Also don’t limit yourself to the menu board. The chef will make almost anything to order if you just ask.
