Cup of Truth
A hole in the wall cafe in a railway subway with personality. Great for take-away or sitting at the bar. My “jolson” a half-filled long black was pretty good, the barista is hilariously good value.
Also the address is misleading and even correct would be non-obvious. Go to the Flinders St end of Degraves St and descend into one of the nearby subway stairs and it’s just at the bottom.
Cute little hole in the wall in the Flinders St underpass, it’s basically a bar counter with a coffee machine.
I’ve had two coffees from here now and they’ve both been pretty average. Weak coffee flavour that’s easily drowned by the milk, even when I asked for it strong. Will have to try a long black or a short macchiato, but I wouldnt bother with a milk-based coffee here if you actually like the flavour of coffee.
I especially love the service - after 2 trips here the staff know my preferred order and say “hi”, even though they don’t know my name. And the honesty system where you just put your money into a shared cup, and make your own change (or leave a tip!) is clever too - much easier with a 2 person operation, than having one of them spend forever making change.
(Note if you are looking for Cup of Truth - they are in the underpass that goes under Flinders Street to the station)
In a tiny hole in the wall in Campbell Arcade (under Degraves St) you’ll find the best coffee in Melbourne. Generally serving Five Senses coffee, but with occasional guest roasters. Courtney and Verity know their stuff (and they often know your drink, if you’ve been there a couple of times).
