Coffee on Crown
Definitely the best coffee in Newcastle’s CBD, possibly the best in the city.
The staff are friendly and the orders are generally out pretty fast. The laneway makes for a nice setting and the place’s fit out is cosy and friendly.
Most importantly though the coffee is consistently fantastic; my worst coffee from these guys was better than most shop’s best. Their strong coffee is actually strong as well, which makes for a pleasant change.
All in all if you are hanging out for a coffee in central Newcastle, do yourself a favour and stop by!
Best coffee in Newcastle. Free WiFi. Nice atmosphere, indoors and out. Friendly staff who will remember your name and your order.
Great atmosphere, the coffee shop’s interior has been nicely designed to feel cosy and welcoming and they have kept it classy - unlike the popular trend of late towards the more casual ‘hippy’ style cafe. If you know your coffee machines and appreciate the best - you can’t walk past a shop with a brand new La Marzocco GB5!
The smell of freshly roasted coffee will lead you to the door and the staff are friendly and helpful - not only is it the best coffee in Newcastle but also a really useful spot if you are a tourist. The staff know a lot about the region and they have an internet cafe and free WiFi.
Coffee is the owners own brand “Rare Roast” and is roasted locally in the Hunter Region weekly. One of the few around town with a double shot in every cup and they also possess a triple shot basket for those that need it. The blend is suited superbly to be accompanied with milk but also delicious on it’s own and macchiatos are popular around here.
Beans are available for purchase and can be ground. They also sell a great range of other coffee related products and on a totally unrelated topic - they are the only retailer of the hottest chilli sauces available anywhere. You think you’re into chilli sauce and can talk a big game? Think again!
Coffee makes the world go round - but man can not survive on coffee alone! The selection of fresh handmade cakes and muffins provided exclusivley to only a few shops in the area are to die for and a nice change from the usual stuff the big pattisseries in town are churning out. I’ve heard they will soon be doing lunch time foods as well so will be checking back frequently in anticipation of fresh home made sandwiches, meat pies & soups for winter.
If you are in Newcastle and appreciate good coffee - get yourself in to Crown street - it’s the one way street that runs between Hunter St & King St - opposite the cinema on King st and opposite Frontline Hobbies on Hunter St.
