Disappointingly average coffee, given the reputation and the friendly atmosphere. The kitchen may not be big enough for the venue. Will have to go back and try again – others rave about this place.

Good smooth flat white. Could have been a touch hotter for my personal mouth-burning preference. Solid without being spectacular. Service was a little tardy, but it was a customer frothing Sunday morning.

Salawi has very tasty coffee, lots of cool fair trade products to browse, a laid back atmosphere and a friendly owner. Oh, and a cute border collie pottering around.

Definitely the best coffee in Newcastle’s CBD, possibly the best in the city.

The staff are friendly and the orders are generally out pretty fast. The laneway makes for a nice setting and the place’s fit out is cosy and friendly.

A little bitter, but still ok for a morning Joe.
